At the June 15th meeting that everyone is arguing about, John Klimm walked unexpectedly into an executive session with hand-written notes extolling his virtues and asked for a buy-out.
Responding to citizen outrage about Klimm's buyout offer, James Munafo, Jr. said,
"We gave them what they wanted."This, my friends, is probably the closest thing to the truth that you'll hear coming out of the mouths of the councilors who got themselves involved in this fiasco.
John Klimm asked for a buy-out and the council obliged.
What's happening now takes on a new clarity when viewed from this perepetive.
Why did Bob Jones crawl out of the woodwork to run for a two year term? Everyone I know agreed that Jen would be given this job. Why is there a contested race in Cotuit? Why did Mike Daley write a column suggesting that now isn't the time for a new Charter? Why is his wife running against an incumbent who will be retiring in two years. And, why is Richardson running a candidate against Atsalis' candidate to beat Munafo?
I could go on, but you get the point.
This upcoming election isn't about Klimm or his contract. This election is about who sits at the table to select John Klimm's replacement.

I must say........... I have to disagree, at least thet Klimm is outta here...
here, let me give you my take....
First, this whole thing began when Klimm's neice got into a fight with the former council administrator, Donald Grissom. Since Klimm IS a very vindictive man, he naturally wanted to fire Grissom but whoops, he could NOT! Why? Because grisson is an employee of the COUNCIL and WE ELECT THEM so Klimm has NO SAY. Whoops. So what did Klimm do then? Speculation is that he had Chirigotis FIRE Grissom. Did little Freedie act alone? No one knows but one thing is for sure that he DID NOT bring it to the ENTIRE council as he was bound to do... Whoops. Charter violation on his part? Whoops...
Ok, so now move to that June 15th council meeting which was NOT an OPEN one I might ad. The original purpose of that meeting was TO CONVENE TO TALK ABOUT THE GRISSOM EPISODE but when they got in there, there was old Johnny boy alledgedly READING a TYPE WRITTEN letter (apparently written by himself) about HOW GREAT HE IS and about all his GREAT accomplishments he has DONE FOR US ALL....... Hey John Klimm about all you ever did was put US ALL IN A MOUNTAIN OF DEBT!
But Klimm sat there and READ to his puppets about HOW GREAT HE IS! Instead of talking about the ILLEGAL firing of grissom.
It was about then that some from the council wanted an investigation into the firing and RIGHT THEN, Klimm knew he was in trouble. You see, IF there had been an investigation, they just might find that fast freddie and Klimm conspired to have Grissom fired, of which they DID NOT HAVE THE jurisidiction to do.
So WHAT DID KLIMM THEN DO? He hired Mr. bigmouth J Albert NOBODY who then sent threatening letters and placed a GAG ORDER onto the SIX councilors to keep QUIET!
After that they met on June 16th and again on the 23rd....... During all that time, Klimm's real purpose had been to HIMSELF ASK FOR A BUYOUT OF HIS CONTRACT! So they in fact did make him the now infamous proposal which WAS NOT A TERMINATION LETTER as they tried to make everyone believe! That buyout proposal was WHAT KLIMM ASKED for.
It is so interesting then that at that JUNE 23rd meeting the council met THREE TIMES in secret executive sessions and to that point, NO ONE IN THIS TOWN KNEW about NAY of this, period. Yet how STRANGE was it that ALL OF A SUDDEN AFTER that THIRD time in SECRET that night all of a SUDDEN WHO SHOWED UP BUT about six of KLIMM's FORMER PUPPETS, Roy Richardson, mimi O'Connell, Sue candy kiss Rohrback and Bobby Tucker, (another Klimm puppet who can't put together two complete sentences) and one or two others to TOUT about wah wah, WHY are they FIRING their hero?
Well folks, you see, this is how we know this was some kind of conspiracy because NO ONE IN TOWN KNEW about any of this but yet, a few of Klimm's hand picked PUPPETS came in and got the infammous RUMOR started that he was going to be fired...

After that we all know what happened. Klimm was able to garnish up some 300 HACKS to sit like they were manikens in a movie. it was Klimm's show but in fact, anyone with even half a brain knows that big deal. So what?! Klimm had some 30 people go speak for their highness? The guy has a town workforce of about 3600 TOWN EMPLOYEES and LESS THAN ONE PERCENT OF THEM 'supported' him??!!!!!!!!!!! Big deal.
So here we are. If anyone wateced the council meeting last Thursday night you would then have seen that so called EXPERT lawyer that YOUR tax dollars being wasted on try to convince the council that the complaints of Gary Lopez and I were not valid because we did not file them within the 30 days as allowed by law... Whoops, yet another LAME ASS lawyer who does not know his ass from his elbow! The LAW allows anyone 30 days from the date [...]
You have misquoted Munafo in your post (not hard to do though). What he actually said was "We gave him what he wanted". The words "he" and "him" were in referrence to John Klimm. Also the meeting on June 15, 2011 was not a meeting of the full town council but a four councilor sub-committee comprised of Crocker, Farnham, Rugo and Dagwan. This sub-committee was requested by Jimmy Crocker

Thanks for your corrections but then again, no one cares about the tiny details. All we want is the truth and Klimm has never been one for wanting to give too much of that. No one cares and at this point, the town needs to get rid of EVERY DAMN ONE of these people and go to AN ELECTED MAYOR with say SEVEN COUNCILORS AT LARGE.

It sure does seem that Klimm is set on leaving. My sources say that Tom Lynch is being groomed to succeed Klimm. Lynch doesn't have the political interest or experience of Klimm, and will be much easier for this, and future councils to handle.

Also, the sub-committee was not requested by Crocker. It was Klimm who requested the sub-committee be formed through "channels." And, Crocker recommended that Rugo chair. Rugo declined.
Klimm wants out. Let's focus on what's next - finding a replacement who isn't divisive and unresponsive should be our goal.
If Fred Chirigotis has his way, he will conduct a world-wide search for Klimm's replacement and after spending $50,000 on a search appoint Lynch. That would be a big mistake for Barnstable. We need new bloood and a fresh perspective. Remember that, when you evaluate these candidates.
If you think about it, Tom Lynch is more of what a town manager is supposed to be - not a politician or a guy with his own ideas for the town, but a guy to m a n a g e the various departments and report to the council. It was no accident that he appeared in Klimm's stead the other night. He showed what a hardcore beaurocrat he is by suggesting a meeting with various dept. heads just to answer one little old lady's questions.

Demetrius Atsalis would be more than willing to take the manager's job if he were approached in a respectful and timely manner. Barnstable deserves the excellence and industry he would provide.
Good golly, I think the new manager should be someone who pays their bills, gets their car inspected in a timely manner and doesn't divert campaign funds and break a few laws. The "do you know who I am can only go so far."

Gary Lopez "schooled" quite a few local residents, not just bloggers, coggers, or whatever. Before he completely abandoned all sense of decency, he had relationships all over town hall. It's a shame, really. It's like he has an incurable mean streak.

We won't know for sure until the Nov. elections - although he may go on hiatus as soon as next month.
If the "left" sweeps in Nov. or he gets the 2/3's vote he needs for a hefty salary increase, he'll stay until he's pensioned off. If as excepted, the election is a wash with little movement on either side, he'll be gone before year end - only to return as a consultant selling over-priced sewer systems to unwitting municipalities across the Cape.

Nothing will happen until John Klimm either signs or rejects the contract amendment voted on 6/23/11. There is language within the amendment that states that John Klimm is to go on paid leave of absence from 9/30/11 until 12/15/11. So either the first council meeting in September which is on 9/8/11 or the second on 9/22/11 should bring Klimm's answer.
I have my doubts that Klimm will show at either meeting. This charade has back-fired. The candidate field is unimpressive and the BCGK is weak and getting weaker...By November, we'll all be lulled back to our sleep and only the usual suspects will even bother to vote.

Instead of those make believe politicians manoeuvring for the town manager position, why don`t they do some manoeuvring to bring good jobs to the town. A newspaper article in todays cape cod times said:The wastewater project will bring jobs to barnstable.
The only ones that had jobs in the Stewart Creek construction, were the cops on paid details, and the construction workers that were not residents of barnstable.
The sewering of barnstable is nothing but bullshit, and for those in the higher up town management jobs to recieve kickbacks.

When you consider that unemployment this winter will easily reach 11-12%, I agree that this preoccupation with the Town Manager's contract is ridiculous. I'd like to see some of the incumbents and their challenges talk about what's in it for us to pay their taxes and support their policies.
